 Alvin M. Pearlman, CPA (Principal)

Al is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University and the University of Cincinnati College of Law.  He has been a certified public accountant since 1973.  Professional organizations to which Al belongs include the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and its Taxation Division, and the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants, of which he is past chairman of the tax committee of its Cincinnati Chapter.  He has served as a member of the Individual Taxation Committee of the Tax Division of the AICPA, whose mission is to formulate technical and policy recommendations to submit to Congress, The Treasury Department, and the Internal Revenue Service.

He has expertise and is actively engaged not only in tax compliance, but in tax planning, advising clients regarding tax implications of structuring transactions, representing clients' interests in disputes before the IRS and other taxing authorities, and serving as an advisor, sounding board, and business confidante of his clients, utilizing his own experiences gained from serving a myriad of individuals and businesses, and being a business owner himself.

Among his clients are closely held businesses engaged in manufacturing, retail, medical practice, electronic publishing, printing, marketing, branding, and various service providers.  Clients include not only individuals, but also corporations, both C and S, partnerships, LLC's, proprietorships, trusts, estates, and tax exempt entities.

Al has been a speaker both locally and nationally, and has been a frequent guest on television and radio programs.

 

Dave Smith, CPA (Principal)

Dave Smith is involved in all aspects of services to small businesses, heads up the Firm's accounting and auditing practice, and is in charge of the Firm's quality control.  As a CPA and business advisor, Dave has extensive experience serving individuals and businesses in various industries.

Dave is a 1978 graduate of Muskingum College and has been a Certified Public Accountant since 1980.  He has particpated in volunteer work with the United Way Fund drives, the Chamber of Commerce, as well as coaching girls softball and basketball.  Dave is a member of a Chamber of Commerce CEO Roundtable group, the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

 

Samuel A. Frankel, CPA

Sam Frankel is associated with SmithPearlman & Co.  As a CPA and business advisor, Sam specializes in helping small and midsize organizations to continually improve and succeed.  With over 30 years of experience, Sam has helped hundreds of businesses to consistently make sound business decisions by personally sharing his valuable knowledge, insights and business advice.

Sam takes a very personal and hands-on approach to providing value-added solutions and recommendations to his clients in the following areas:  taxes, accounting, finance, computer systems, profit enhancement, and general business planning.  In addition to his strategic planning skill and insights, Samalso helps companies to enhance corporate performance through the proper use of technology.  His clients consist of individuals, professional practices, and corporations representing multiple industries.  Whether helping clients to write strategic business plans, implement computer solutions or enhance bottom line results, he judges his service by one critical benchmark - the success of his clients.  Prior to joining SmithPearlman & Co., Sam was a partner with a regional accounting firm, an international accounting firm for 17 years, and was also the CFO of a large communications company.  Consequently, he understands client service from both perspectives and strives for practical solutions and tangible results when serving his clients.

Sam graduated from Miami University (Oxford, OH) with a degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting.  He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants.  Sam has also written for the Journal of Accountancy and the Journal of Taxation and has been a speaker to local business and civil groups on the topics of tax planning, computer systems, profit enhancement, and business planning.

 

 Candice J. Salazar, CPA (Director of Tax)

 

Candy has a breadth of knowledge with more than 25 years of experience in tax and accounting services.  Her industry specialties include closely held businesses, real estate and healthcare.  She is well regarded by clients for her tax planning expertise and excellent customer service.  Candy joined the SmithPearlman team in 1997.  She has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois.  She is a member of the AICPA and the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants.  She is an avid sports fan and has served on the Board of Directors of Cincinnati Soccer Alliance since 1998.

 

Julia C. Stephen, CPA (Tax Manager)

Julia has been at SmithPearlman & Co. for over thirteen years.  She specializes in tax work, much of which involves working with the owners of small businesses and assisting them with their taxes from both a personal and business perspective.  She is equally at ease working on complex tax planning, financial statement preparation and daily accounting questions.  She is knowledgeable in both QuickBooks and Peachtree accounting software.

Julia earned her CPA license in 1998.  Her bachelor’s is from Indiana University and her master’s is from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.  She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Julia also works with several non-profit organizations and was formerly treasurer of the Society for the Preservation of Music Hall.

 Kimberly S. Lorenzo, CPA

Kim Lorenzo is a graduate of Eastern Illinois University and has been a certified public accountant since 1996.  She joined SmithPearlman & Co. in 1996.  Kim's main focus at SmithPearlman is financial accounting services.  She serves as an in-house controller to some of our small business clientele.  Kim is active in teaching and finances at her church.  She is a member of the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants.

 

Sheryl A. Sheshull, CPA

Sheryl Sheshull is a staff accountant in our tax department.  She is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a degree in business administration and has been a Certified Public Accountant since 1990.  Sheryl is QuickBooks certified and available to assist clients in the implementation and use of QuickBooks.

Judith E. Radloff, Firm Administrator

Judy Radloff joined SmithPearlman & Co. in 1998.  She has more than 30 years of experience in firm administration.  Prior to joining SmithPearlman & Co., she had been the firm administrator for a national law firm and an international accounting firm.  She is a member of the Association of Accounting Administrators.

 

Linda A. Brown, Administrative Assistant

Linda graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Business.  She has been with SmithPearlman & Co. for 18 years.


 

Laura M. Hibbard, Administrative Assistant

Laura has been with SmithPearlman & Co. for the past eight years in addition to ten years spent with the CPA firm that merged with SmithPearlman & Co. in 2006.

Linda and Laura greet clients, answer the telephone, process tax returns and financial statements as well as manage the documents of the firm.  They also provide office support to the staff, as well as to each other.
